What is a one-post lift?

A one-post lift, also known as a single-post lift, is a type of vehicle lift characterised by a single vertical column that supports the lifting mechanism. Unlike 2-post lifts or 4-post lifts, it uses a single hydraulic cylinder or screw drive system integrated within this column to raise and lower a vehicle. The vehicle is typically driven onto a platform or arms that extend from the central post, making it highly space-efficient and ideal for specific workshop layouts where traditional two or four-post lifts would be too large.

Are single-post hoists safe?

Yes, modern single-post hoists are designed with multiple safety features to ensure reliable and secure operation. These typically include automatic safety locks that engage at various heights, hydraulic flow restrictors in case of hose failure, overload protection, and often redundant lifting systems. When installed and bolted down correctly on a suitable depth concrete base and regularly maintained according to manufacturer guidelines, and operated by trained personnel, single-post lifts provide a very safe means of lifting vehicles for maintenance and repair.

Are single-post lifts good for small garages?

Absolutely, single-post lifts are exceptionally well-suited for small garages, home workshops, or commercial facilities with limited floor space. Their single-column design means they take up a significantly smaller footprint compared to two-post, four-post lifts, or scissor lifts, allowing for better vehicle manoeuvrability and storage when the lift is not in use. They maximise usable space, making them an excellent solution for enhancing lifting capabilities in environments where traditional, larger garage lifts are not feasible.
