Concept and Blake’s Journey so far
Blake Angliss Motorsport reached out to Concept Garage Equipment in June 2023 as they were keen to pair up with companies in the motoring industry and we quickly realised that our interests and passions were very well aligned with theirs. We agreed that we seemed like a great fit as a sponsor for Angliss Motorsport for the 2023 season.
Our first race together was at Silverstone racetrack over the weekend of 1-4th June, where Blake was racing in the Ginetta GT Championship driving a brand-new Ginetta G56 GTP car for the first time, where he enjoyed a sensational set of races with four race victories and a clean sweep of six podium finishes from six races!
What has 2024 got in store for Blake?
Blake Angliss’ race season this year has set off to a flying start, and he’s upgraded to the British GT McLaren Artura GT4, a car that not only looks and sounds incredible, but is sure to set the pace for the rest of the racers this year.
Oulton Park for the first round of the season was a massive learning curve for Blake both with him entering a new championship and also for the team with Blake as a new driver at the wheel.
The weekend turned out to be full of the typical Easter weekend British weather with a bit of sunshine but mostly rain. From the get go Blake and the team had a lot of ground to make up on the rest of the field and getting the car in the right window. The progress that the team made throughout the practice sessions were massive to allow them to have a competitive car. Thankfully Blake managed to qualify in the middle of the field, which wasn’t a bad result considering he’d had so little experience in this new and quite different car to last years Ginetta.
On race day the heavens opened again and it was a very wet first race but Blake managed to gain one position over the course of the race which was a good showing overall. Race two however, was cut short as the whole stint in the car being under full course yellow which meant he was stuck at 80kph for the rest of the race along with everyone else.
Onto the Silverstone 500 and what looked to be a positive weekend certainly became one. Blake hit the ground running in the practice sessions and looked very fast. A few setup changes and some discussions with the engineer and they had a very solid looking race car for race day.
In qualifying a joint effort between Alex and Blake put the team fourth for the start of the race. This gave a great opportunity to miss all the chaos at the start of what turned out to be another wet race day.
Blake started the race and got into third on the opening lap and held that position until it was time to box for the first pitstop of the race. Alex went out in the car and had a slight tangle with another car during his stint which dropped them back to fourth but not a million miles away from the podium positions. After the second pitstop of the race Blake took back control of the car and managed to set the GT4 timing screens alive – incredibly catching up the difference to third place and putting them right back in the mix for Alex’s closing stint. Unfortunately a small mistake by Alex gave the team a drive through penalty but at the end of the three hour race they finished fifth in class and eighth overall in GT4. This was a testament as to how fast the drivers can be and how they worked as a team to showed everyone their true potential.
Donington Park is next up for another three hour race and we will see if Blake and the team can have a slightly better fortune in the race and get on the steps of the podium to taste some champagne for all their hard work.
We wish Blake and the team the best of luck for the upcoming races!
