What is a Pressure Washer?
A pressure washer is a mechanical device that uses high-pressure water to clean surfaces. It consists of a motor or engine that drives a pump, which pressurises water from a water source (such as a garden hose pipe) and expels it through a high-pressure hose and a nozzle. The high-pressure water stream is extremely effective at removing dirt, grime, dust, mud, mould, mildew, and other types of contaminants from a variety of surfaces, including garage floors, vehicles, buildings, driveways, and forecourts.
It's important to note that while pressure washers are highly effective tools, they can also be quite powerful and potentially cause damage if not used correctly. It's essential to follow safety guidelines, wear appropriate protective gear, and adjust the pressure and nozzle settings based on the surface you're cleaning to avoid unintended harm.
How are Pressure Washers Rated?
Pressure washers come in different sizes and power levels, ranging from small, portable units for home use to larger and more powerful models used for commercial and industrial cleaning applications, such as those used by garages and in MOT Bays.
The pressure level is typically measured in either bar or pounds per square inch (psi) and the water flow rate in gallons per minute (gpm). The combination of high pressure and water flow allows pressure washers to clean surfaces more efficiently and effectively than traditional methods.
Another measure used for pressure washers is the size of the tank, as the larger the tank, the less often it needs to be refilled, however this will also lead to a potentially heavier machine.
